Annual Concert 2019

The Music Children Foundation 2019 Annual Concert under the Jockey Club Music Children Seed Programme was successfully held on 15 July. Over 500 MCF students from 6 districts (Shamshuipo, Kowloon City, Kwun Tong, Wong Tai Sin, Kwai Ching and Yau Tsim Mong) put up their best performance to showcase the result of their hard work in the past year to the audience of the general public. There were 2 concerts on the day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening attracting over 1,000 audiences to the spectacular performance. We would like to give special thanks to Mr. Lau Kong Wah, JP (Secretary for Home Affairs) and all guests including Ms. Winnie Yip (Executive Manager, Charities (Projects), The Hong Kong Jockey Club), Dr. Lo Ka Shui (Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation), Mr. Nicholas C. Allen and his wife (Chairman, LINK Asset Management Limited), and guests from the Rotary Club Kowloon for their presence to enjoy a wonderful evening.

To start off the concert was the choir and orchestra from Shamshuipo district under the directions of Music Director and Chief Orchestra Conductor Mr. Jacky Leung, and MCF Chief Choir Conductor Ms. Bobo Lo performing the song “Why We Sing”; followed by an assembly of choir from all districts singing “Dollar Chicken” bringing the audience to an elated level. At mid concert, the ensembles and brass band from the 6 districts performed a number of familiar theme music – “Star Wars” by John Williams and “Spirited Away” by Joe Hisaishi, etc. The grand finale was a “Canon in D Fantansie” – a medley of popular Cantonese songs performed by all children. The mellifluous sound of the orchestra and choir filled the entire arena, not only writing this memorable moment into the pages of the children’s musical journey, but also steering the emotions of the audience to a new height.

An opening speech was delivered by Ms. Winnie Yip (Executive Manager, Charities (Projects), The Hong Kong Jockey Club). In the speech by Mrs. Monique Wu, Co-founder of MCF and Artistic Director, she said “I’m very pleased to see so many audiences from different walks in society to come witness the development of these children. Every audience’s applause is recognition to their achievements. We hope we will be able to provide service to more children from grassroots level, let them experience music from an early age, create family bonding through music, and create positive values and rapport for our society.”
